Committee: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
When it first came into sight, I thought about Germany. As a important part of the international society as well as one of the members of UNHCR, Germany stands in the position that it welcomes the influx of refugees, which at one time has been fiercely discussed by people over the world. Until last year, Germany had already received more than 1 million refugees, providing them with not only living space but also food, commodities and basic living security. What comes in very naturally is the question, Why on the Earth a country like Germany welcomes refugees? Here are some of the possible reasons.
Firstly, also the most importantly, Germany regards welcoming refugees as a confession and an apology to their behaviors during The II World War. If it doesn』t receive any refugees, because of its special notorious background, it』ll probably be regard by the international society as not admitting mistakes and not learning from the crime they mad as a Fascist Nation. Also, those refugees』 countries in the middle east accepted large amounts of Germany refugees during and after The II World War, to welcome their refugees now can also be a return to those countries with gratitude, incidentally win an approval from the globe society.
Secondly, Germany wants to clear its bad reputation as an Unfriendly European Hegemonic country in the Greek Debt Crisis. In the event, Germany acted as the leader of some powerful nations in the EU which proposed that no more loan should be granted to Greek. By accepting refugees, Germany wants to show its kindness and thus, indicate itself still a humble, helpful nation, strong but with no hegemony.
Thirdly, out of humanitarian. Germany as a developed country, has the ability to receive a large amount of refugees. When a country』s economy can afford accepting more people and providing financial aid, and when the nation』s society is relatively stable and harmonious with high-quality people, saving others out of humanitarian comes in the first place. Germany happens to be a country like this, and humanitarian is also the priority in a German』s mind. A statistic made by a German media shows that 88% of Germans are willing to donate money and other supplies to refuges while 67% of them want to devote their time to take care of the refugees as volunteers.
Fourthly, a series of problems is existing in the Germany, such as the age tendency of German population. According to a report, so called the White-Hair period will arrive in Germany by 2030. Other problems like the lack of high-quality people, and the lack of some well-educated young labor forces also bother the German society. To accept the refugees from the Middle East (especially Syria), where education process is quite advance, will be able to solve those problems effectively. Furthermore, refugees arriving in Europe mostly are middle classes in their original country, so integrating into the German society won』t be a hard process.
Fifthly, according to the Geneva Convention 1951, and the Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees 1967, no limitations were put to the population of the refugee a country can accept. In other words, any people accord with the definition Refugee shall be protected by this International law. Germany, as well as other countries, are obliged to accept the influx of refugees as long as they can afford them.
The last reason may sound ridiculous. It is more than a unrealistic guess compared with a reasonable reason. That is, welcome the refugees, letting the refugees create chaos and riots deliberately and to find a reasonable excuse to develop military forces and thus, provoke a III World War, in consideration of the instinctual of the militant Nordics.
