Thanks for inviting me:

GalaxyKingBitch :id like to ask if you have any interest in writing a article about finding jobs in German. Not specificly for foreigner but also for the locals.

GalaxyKingBitch :like whats the differences between the students from Uni and Fachhochschule.

GalaxyKingBitch :and when they choose a job which is not connected to their major. will they have the chance to promote themselves .

I am not 100% sure if I understand the intention of this question well, but I"ll try to answer briefly:

  1. Currently, the German job market is really hot. Unemployment is at a historic low, so it is a great time to find a job: If you sell your time and skills, it"s a sellers market right now, and the outlook for 2018 is also positive
  2. Obviously, you are interested in jobs for academics. Fachhochshule FH is for applied sciences, while University is geared more to the theoretic part of sciences. For FH, a Fachabitur is sufficient, so generally 1 year less of school.

So on paper, Uni / TH might be a little better. But there are only few employers who make a strict rule out of hiring only Uni/TH. Management Consulting is usually one of those.

On the other hand, some FH actually have a better reputation, as graduates are more workforce ready. Practical knowledge is sometimes more valuable than theoretic concepts without implementation skills.
  3. A big strength I see in Germany"s education system and labor market is that it is permeable ("durchl?ssig"), meaning that you don"t have to have 110% the right education from kindergarten on to enter THIS and only THIS job.

I know that China is very much like that, and some other countries (e.g. France) are similar.

But to me, this does not make sense, neither for the job applicant (how should he know during his whole education what he/she was targeting many years later?), NOR FOR THE COMPANY HIRING.

In fact, some of the best inventions happened when people from one field started to work in another. E.g. when a Biologist discovers the principle of Velcro strips by observing burrs (seeds of plants) cling to his dogs hair.

I have started my career in Management Consulting, and we had medical doctors, physicists, chemists, a psychologist, even an actor and so on in our team. We would just have to find a common language, but otherwise, the diversity was enriching.

Fortunately, Germany favors such non-linear careers. Just look at the CVs being sent: They include ALL professional experience, not just what is immediately relevant at first sight, and they even include some private things, which are still important: Imagine, you trained a volleyball team: This shows you are familiar with things such as team work, organizational trouble, carrying responsibility, dealing with defeat etc.

A French would never put this into their CV.

So if your major does not fit your dream job: No problem, maybe even an advantage, as long as you can find and present with confidence your argumentation why this is actually bringing fresh impulses to your new employer, and that you are also capable and willing to fit into their culture (that"s the common language I was referring to above).

Good luck!
