「atwitter」從詞義和詞源上來說，的確是「twitter」加了表示狀態意味的形容詞前綴「a-」而來。

「twitter」大意為：不停歇地說話；（鳥兒）鳴叫。

「atwitter」大意為：激動；興奮地關注。

一般而言，「twitter」是一個比較書面語的辭彙，在大眾出版物上並不經常出現。而「atwitter」則更鮮見於大眾媒體。但由於網站 Twitter 的火箭般崛起，twitter 一詞成功進入美國日常語彙。《時代周刊》使用 atwitter 一詞，應該是有意傳遞「Quora 正在成為 Twitter 那樣的熱門互聯網站」的信息。

加上「a-」前綴後將一個動詞變為含有狀態意味形容詞/副詞的例子還有：ablaze, aglow, awry.
