【歌詞分析】【賞析】Green Day - American Idiot (2004)

在數字版專輯裡有些歌是連在一起的，因為Green

Day覺得有些歌是相關聯的，這裡就不計較了，以上是維基給的原版track

listing。

本篇分析不包括Bonus Tracks

我沒把所有歌詞貼出來，只引用了足夠我表達意思的歌詞，原歌詞鏈接如下：

這是Green Day的第一張概念專輯，也是我很喜歡的一張。至於專輯講了怎樣的故事，聽我慢慢給你說~

American Idiot

是政治意味很濃的一首

Welcome to a new kind of tension.

All across the alienation.

Where everything isnt meant to be okay.

Television dreams of tomorrow.

Were not the ones whore meant to follow.

One nation controlled by the media.

Information age of hysteria.

（歌詞大意：歡迎來到一個新的被異化的緊張形勢，在這裡啥幾把玩意都不太okay，電視里在夢想著美好的明天，而我們不應該輕信，因為那些內容都是值得商榷的。 不要做一個美國傻逼，這是個被媒體控制的國度。歇斯底里的信息傳播，愚弄了美國。）

這張專輯的創作背景之一是伊拉克戰爭，而Green Day特別是Billie是極度反戰的。這首歌寫出了當時的美國媒體都在大肆宣揚美國的「正義戰爭」，Billie覺得事實並不是這樣子的，他覺得很多民眾都被愚弄了。Billie借這張專輯希望讓大眾覺醒，阻止發動戰爭的小布希連任（事實是然並卵，話說Billie一次阻止布希一次阻止川普，結果都事與願違，心疼30秒）

Jesus of Suburbia

這首歌分為五幕，很好地詮釋了這張專輯是個搖滾歌劇。

Part 1. Jesus of Suburbia 郊區的耶穌

第一句就交代了人物Jesus of Suburbia郊區的耶穌，是憤怒和愛的兒子。

Im the son of rage and love

The Jesus of Suburbia

這一幕有很具象的場景描寫，Jesus of Suburbia每天喝蘇打飲料，服用抗精神失常藥物Ritalin，嗜酒吸煙飛葉子，私生活頹廢又混亂。

No one ever died for my sins in hell

As far as I can tell

At least the ones I got away with

這幾句寫出了他認為自己是有罪的，但是也沒有人因為他的罪而死去。

While the Moms and Brads are away

To fall in love and fall in debt

這幾句寫出，他的媽媽很愛她，但是爸爸對他很嚴厲。後面的歌也多次出現他爸和他媽，在這裡提一下。

這一幕有我很喜歡的一句歌詞如下

In a land of make believe

That dont believe in me

（歌詞大意：在這片製造信仰的土地上，沒有人相信我）

Part 2. City Of The Damned 被詛咒的城市

交代了Jesus of Suburbia生活的地方是地球的中心，但卻是一座死亡之城（city of the dead）和被詛咒之城(city of the damned)，在這裡迷路的孩子臉上沾滿泥土，但是並沒有人在乎他們。他讀著廁所里的塗鴉，就像讀著聖經里的經文，但是看起來也沒有告訴你什麼，只是揭示了這座城市是世界的盡頭，但是他一點也不在乎。

這一幕有一句我特別特別喜歡的歌詞如下

It says home is where your heart is

But what a shame

Cause everyones heart

Doesnt beat the same

Its beating out of time

（歌詞大意：俗話說家是你心之所在，不過真可笑啊，因為每個人心的跳動並不是同步的。）

Part 3. I Dont Care 我不介意

I dont care if you dont

上來就是一句歌詞不斷重複，如果你不在乎那我也不在乎，聽起來既憤怒又絕望。

Everyone is so full of shit

Born and raised by hypocrites

Hearts recycled but never saved

From the cradle to the grave

We are the kids of war and peace

From Anaheim to the middle east

We are the stories and disciples

Of the Jesus of suburbia

（歌詞大意：每個人都他媽是一坨屎，被偽君子生下來並撫養長大。從搖籃到墳墓，一代代的人生重複著卻從未被拯救。我們都是戰爭與和平的孩子，從Anaheim（加州城市）到中東，我們都是Jesus of Suburbia的追隨者並重複著他的故事）

這一幕既是對Jesus of Suburbia生活之地的描述，又可以理解為對當時現實生活的描述。

中東的孩子們一代代都生活在戰火中（從海灣戰爭到伊拉克戰爭，中東戰爭不斷），並沒有改變什麼，而美國媒體一直宣揚著「正義」的戰爭，也從未改變什麼。Billie表達著自己的憤慨。

Part 4. Dearly Beloved 親愛的愛人

Jesus of Suburbia向自己所愛之人吶喊，卻得不到回應，他變得越來越不正常，藥物治療也沒有用。

Part 5. Tales Of Another Broken Home 另一個心碎家園的故事

To live and not to breathe

Is to die in tragedy

To run, to run away

To find what you believe

And I leave behind

This hurricane of fucking lies

（歌詞大意：這樣子的生活等同於在悲劇中死亡，跑啊跑，去找尋我的信仰，把謊言的颶風拋之腦後。）

Jesus of Suburbia覺得自己生活的地方已經沒救了，於是只能一直向前跑，希望找到一個正常的世界。他並沒有感到恥辱，也不會道歉，只想離開家鄉脫離痛苦。

Holiday

這是又一首很直接描寫當時局勢的歌。

Coming down like an Armageddon flame

Armageddon是聖經里描寫世界末日之前正義與邪惡的最後一場戰爭。

Hear the drum pounding out of time

Another protester has crossed the line (Hey!)

To find, the moneys on the other side

（歌詞大意：聽到鼓聲響起，另一位示威者跨過警戒線，去找尋另一側的金錢。）

美國發動伊拉克戰爭一部分原因是因為想控制石油資源，很形象地寫出Billie所認為的戰爭目的。

Zieg Heil to the president Gasman

Bombs away is your punishment

Pulverize the Eiffel towers

Who criticize your government

Bang bang goes the broken glass and

Kill all the fags that dont agree

Trials by fire, setting fire

Is not a way thats meant for me

Just cause (hey, hey, hey), just cause,

（歌詞大意：向石油總統行納粹禮，炸彈是對你的懲罰。粉碎埃菲爾鐵塔，因為它批判美國政府的做法。炸碎玻璃，殺死所有持反對意見的人。用戰火來審訊，並不是我認為正確的方法。只是因為我們是暴徒。）

很躁的一段歌詞，把美國政府比喻成納粹，要把所有不跟他們一夥的人都殺死。Zieg

Heil是法西斯分子打招呼用語。Gasman形象寫出小布希就是為了石油。而當時法國是反對伊拉克戰爭的，所以粉碎埃菲爾鐵塔寫出了美國政府對反對者的態度。

這首歌里有句特別特別喜歡的歌詞如下

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies

This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

再次寫出Billie認為媒體和美國政府說的都是謊言。

這首歌表面上看不是很能fit整張專輯的故事，可以認為是Jesus of Suburbia離開家鄉之後看到外面世界的樣子。

這首歌花了他們兩個月時間來完成，Billie說這首歌是在對小布希說」fuck you」。

Boulevard of Broken Dreams（專輯裡最喜歡的一首歌！！）

歌詞很簡單啦

I walk a lonely road

The only one that I have ever known

Dont know where it goes

But its home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street

On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Where the city sleeps

And Im the only one and I walk alone

（歌詞大意：我孤獨地走在我唯一知道的一條道路上，不知道它通往哪裡，但這條路就是我的家所以我要一直走下去。我走在空無一人大街上，走在城市沉睡的夢碎大道上，街道上只有我一個人，我一直走下去。）

然後就是我所看過的所有歌詞里最喜歡的四句了啊啊啊啊啊啊啊，如下

（歌詞大意：我的影子是我唯一的追隨者，影子的心是唯一在跳動的東西，有時候我希望有人能發現我，直到那一天到來之前，我一個人走著。。。）

這首歌很好理解，就是寫Jesus of Suburbia離開了家鄉，走在唯一一條自己知曉的道路上，路上空無一人，這條路通向哪他也不知道，只能一直這麼走著。他希望能被發現被理解，很孤獨的一首歌。

Are We the Waiting

這首是專輯裡最有煽動性的一首歌，一遍遍地重複著：

Are we we are, are we we are the waiting

Jesus of Suburbia在星光和燈光照耀的夜裡走著，那個骯髒的家園在他的夢裡被燒毀。他一遍遍吶喊著，不知道應不應該等下去，能否等到光明。

The rage and love, the story of my life

The Jesus of suburbia is a lie

這兩句表明，他發現自己這樣的等待是沒有結果的，於是他希望從真實的自己Jesus of Suburbia變成另一個樣子即St. Jimmy，所以把Jesus of Suburbia也就是他自己稱之為lie謊言。

從而引出St. Jimmy

St. Jimmy

Jesus of Suburbia化身成為了St. Jimmy，一個殺手角色。

St. Jimmy從衚衕里走到了林蔭大道上，就像是遊行中的一把槍，他不從屬於任何人，喊著口號向你走來。

My name is Jimmy and you better not wear it out

Suicide commando that your momma talked about

King of the forty thieves Im here to

represent

That needle in the vein of the establishment

（歌詞大意：我的名字是St. Jimmy，你最好不要說出去。我是你媽媽提及過的自殺突擊隊成員，也是四十大盜之王，是扎到你血管里的那根針。）

Cigarettes and ramen and a little bag of dope

I am the son of a bitch and Edgar Allan Poe

Raised in the city in a halo of lights

Product of war and fear that weve been

victimized

（歌詞大意：隨身攜帶香煙、速食麵和一小袋大麻，我是bitch和Edgar Allan Poe（美國浪漫主義思潮的詩人小說家）的孩子，在神聖光芒下長大，是使我們受害的戰爭與恐怖的產物。）

整首歌都在刻畫St. Jimmy這個冰冷的殺手形象，與當時戰爭與恐怖形勢完美契合。

最後幾句如下

Its comedy and tragedy

Its St. Jimmy

And thats my name... and dont wear it out!

（歌詞大意：是喜劇也是悲劇，我是St.

Jimmy，這就是我的名字，你最好別他媽說出去！）

Green Day演唱會唱這首歌的時候，Billie在唱dont wear it out!這句話之前都會一臉憤怒地站在那裡蓄勢好久然後突然Don』t fucking wear it out! 哈哈哈

Give Me Novacaine

Novacaine是一種麻醉劑

Take away the sensation inside

Bittersweet migraine in my head

Its like a throbbing toothache of the mind

I cant take this feeling anymore

Drain the pressure from the swelling,

This sensations overwhelming,

Give me a long kiss goodnight

And everything will be alright

（歌詞大意：把我體內的感情帶走，偏頭痛就像牙齒的陣痛一樣揮之不去，我快要承受不了這種感覺了。快把體內的壓力排走，這種感覺壓得我喘不過氣，給我一個吻讓我晚安吧，一切都會好起來的，告訴我不再會感到痛苦，所以快點給我麻醉劑吧）

這首歌大概講了St. Jimmy雖然變成了殺手，但是並不能很好地適應自己現在的樣子，只能通過服用麻醉劑來使自己脫離痛苦。

She is a Rebel

專輯裡的第二個人物，女主角whatsername出現了。

Shes a rebel

Shes a saint

Shes salt of the earth

And shes dangerous

She sings the revolution

the dawning of our lives

she brings this liberation

that I just cant define

（歌詞大意：她是個反叛者，是個聖人，她是地球之鹽，她非常危險。 她唱著革命之歌，是我們生活的曙光，她帶來了我無法定義的自由，是我從未想過的東西。）

salt of the earth出自聖經，是一種很高的讚揚。

這首歌引出了Whatsername這個角色，介紹了她是個反叛者是危險的，但是也充滿著革命和自由精神。

Extraordinary Girl

He lacks the courage in his mind

Like a child left behind

（歌詞大意：她Whatsername是個不平凡的女孩，生活在這個平凡的世界裡，她並不會逃走。 他St. Jimmy缺少勇氣，像一個被丟棄的孩子，像雨中被丟棄的寵物。 她非常孤獨，他幫她擦拭著眼淚。他有時候覺得自己要死了，她總是在哭泣。）

whatsername是個勇敢而不平凡的女孩，St. Jimmy卻缺乏勇氣是個被拋棄的孩子。St. Jimmy愛上了whatsername，但是whatsername卻感覺很孤獨，St. Jimmy怎樣做才能讓whatsername開心起來？

Letterbomb

這首歌不太好理解。

（歌詞大意：當這座城市的信仰被粉碎後，暴動要持續到什麼時候？曾經充滿愛的地方現在債務累累，所以點燃導火線發起反抗吧！ 這座城鎮的主教是個勒索者，他甚至不知道你的存在，他只是安靜地站在那裡不管你的死活，所以為了自己的生活快點跑吧）

開頭大概描寫了城市的糟糕境況，城市管理者根本不管你的死活，想要活命就趕快跑吧。

Youre not the Jesus of Suburbia

The St. Jimmy is a figment of

（歌詞大意：你不是Jesus of

Suburbia，St. Jimmy是你用爸爸的憤怒和媽媽的愛虛構的產物，一個美國傻逼）

之前的歌里提過St. Jimmy是Jesus

of Suburbia變成的人物，是他假裝的，並不是真正的自己，在whatsername看來St. Jimmy就是個美國傻逼。這裡又提到了他爸媽。

最後whatsername無法忍受這座城市，只能選擇離開這裡離開St. Jimmy。

Wake Me Up When September Ends

一首爛大街的歌==

Here comes the rain again

Falling from the stars

Drenched in my pain again

Becoming who we are

As my memory rests

But never forgets what I lost

（歌詞大意：大雨又從星空瓢潑而下，浸透了我的疼痛，讓我們變成了現在的樣子。 雖然我的記憶在休息，但是我從未忘記被我丟失的東西，所以在九月結束之前讓我醒來吧。）

歌詞很簡單，夏季過去了，距離他父親的去世已經有七年了。Jesus of Suburbia雖然化身為St.

Jimmy，但是並沒有忘記自己曾經的樣子，他希望在九月結束的時候醒來，做回Jesus of Suburbia。

Homecoming

這首歌又分為五幕

Part 1. The Death Of St. Jimmy St. Jimmy之死

My heart is beating from me

I am standing all alone

Please call me only if you are coming home

Waste another year flies by

Waste a night or two

You taught me how to live

（歌詞大意：我的心臟在跳動，我一直孤獨一人，當你想要回家的時候請告訴我。又浪費了一年時間，揮霍了一個又一個夜晚之後，你教會了我如何去生活。）

這其實是Jesus of Suburbia對St. Jimmy說的話，是他自己的獨白，Jesus of Suburbia用化身為St. Jimmy的方式生活了好多年，這些年的經歷教會了他如何去愛去生活。

In the crowd of pain

St. Jimmy comes without any shame.

He says, 「Were fucked up but were not the same.

And mom and dad are the ones you can blame.」

Jimmy died today

He blew his brains out into the bay

In the states of mind

Its my own private suicide

（歌詞大意：在疼痛中St. Jimmy並不感到羞恥地走來，他說：「我們太操蛋了但是我們並不是相同的，媽媽和爸爸才應該是被指責的人。」 Jimmy在今天死去，這是一次私人化的自殺。）

歌詞里又一次提到他爸媽，Jesus of Suburbia覺得自己之所以變成St. Jimmy的樣子，是由爸媽導致的。個人覺得，這張專輯多次提及的爸爸媽媽可能代指當時的政治社會環境，所以才導致了在現實的美國中有很多像St. Jimmy這樣的人存在。這張專輯確實很有深度，歌詞內容既生長在單純的歌曲中，又很好地映射了當時美國的大環境。不得不說，Billie Joe Armstrong真的是666啊。（當然也有可能是我想多了==）

回到歌里，St. Jimmy選擇了死亡，換句話說，St. Jimmy這種狀態死去了，Jesus of Suburbia又回到了自己最初的樣子。

Part 2. East 12th St. 東12大街

At the facility on East 12th St.

Hes not listening to a word now

Hes in his own world and hes daydreaming

Hed rather be doing something else now,

Like cigarettes and coffee with the underbelly,

His lifes on the line with anxiety now,

And she had enough, and he had plenty

（歌詞大意：現在Jesus在東12大街做文案工作，他聽不進別人的話，生活在自己的世界裡做白日夢。 他寧願做一些其他的事情，比如吸個煙喝杯咖啡，現在跟文案打交道的生活讓他焦慮，whatsername是充實的，Jesus of Suburbia卻很空虛）

Jesus of Suburbia回到了正常的生活，在東12大街做文案工作，但是他對這樣子的生活並不滿意，感到很空虛。

（歌詞大意：現在我不想再待在這裡了，我想趕快離開這兒，我想要自由，可以嗎？）

Jesus of Suburbia厭倦了文案生活，想要自由。

Part 3. Nobody Likes You! 沒人喜歡你！

這一幕是貝斯手Mike Dirnt寫的，也是Mike唱的。

Nobody likes you, everyone left you

Jesus of Suburbia喝了十杯咖啡後看著電視睡著了，大家都離他而去，只有他自己一個人待在原地。沒有人喜歡他，每個人都離他而去。他應該何去何從呢？

Part 4. Rock And Roll Girlfriend 搖滾女朋友

這一幕是鼓手Tre Cool寫得，也是Tre

Cool唱的。（話說Green Day在演唱會是是不是從沒唱過這首歌？==）

歌詞太特么簡單了==

個人認為這一幕是Jesus of Suburbia渴望的生活，是他想像出來的，歌詞里寫到他組了搖滾樂隊，有了個搖滾女朋友，過上了搖滾的生活，也有了孩子。

Part 5. Were Coming Home Again 我們要回家了

The world is spinning

Around and around

Out of control again

From the 7-11 to the fear of breaking down

To send my love a letterbomb

And visit me in hell

（歌詞大意：地球在一圈圈地轉動，從便利店到對世界坍塌的害怕，世界又一次死去了控制，給我愛的人寄一個信函炸彈，讓她來地獄裡找我，然後我們一起回家。。。）

世界還是很混亂，Jesus of Suburbia還是孤獨一人，他希望能再一次見到他愛的whatsername，跟她一起回家。

Whatsername

I made a point to burn all of the photographs

She went away and then I took a different path

I remember the face but I cant recall the name

Now I wonder how whatsername has been

（歌詞大意：我在一個城鎮里撞見了你，事實證明那只是一場夢。我決定燒掉所有的照片，她離開了而我選擇了跟她不同的道路，我記得她的面孔卻無法想起名字，我想知道現在她過得怎樣了。）

（歌詞大意：我記得她，那好像是很久很久之前的事情了。後悔也沒有用，我必須承認她一直在我的腦海中。 在黑暗的夜晚里，如果我的記憶沒有出錯的話，我絕不會選擇回到曾經的那段時光。我選擇忘記你，但不會忘記那段時光。）

Jesus of Suburbia一直記得跟whatsername一起度過的時光，因為那段以St. Jimmy的樣子存在的時光教會了他如何生活如何去愛，但是他也不會選擇回到過去了。

撇開整張專輯的故事，這首歌是個首很好的描寫曾經兩人生活後來分手然後回憶過去的一首歌啊哈哈。

到此為止，這張專輯就結束了，但是故事看起來並沒有結束，Jesus of Suburbia後來過上了怎樣的生活，我們不得而知，Green Day給大家留下了一個開放式的結局。

這張專輯的再版有加Bonus Tracks，可能裡邊有故事結局，我沒仔細研究過，就不講了。

Billie說過，這張專輯是有關當時的政治形勢，但是希望不只局限那個時代，希望在很久之後聽起來依舊很牛逼。

專輯封面為一個流血的手抓著一個手榴彈，來源於She is a Rebel里的歌詞：

不得不說，Green Day的歌詞確實牛逼，這張專輯的歌詞絕大多數都是Billie Joe自己寫的，這就更牛逼了，這也是我喜歡Green Day的一個很重要的原因。Billie也說過歌詞花了好久來雕琢。

以上解讀僅為個人理解。Green Day應該也沒有公開地講過完整的專輯故事，所以仁者見仁智者見智咯。
