[Scene Central Perk, everyones there.]

Monica:nWhat you guys dont understand is, for us, kissing is as important as any partnof it.

Joey: Yeah,nright!.......Yserious?

Phoebe: Oh,nyeah!

Rachel:nEverything you need to know is in that first kiss.

in that a.

Everything you need to know is in that firstnkiss:

Monica:nAbsolutely.

Chandler:nYeah, I think for us, kissing is pretty much like an opening act, yknow? Inmean its like the stand-up comedian you have to sit through before Pink Floydncomes out.

sit throughnv. (Its like the stand-upncomedian you have to sit through before Pink Floyd comes out.)。/Yeah, I think for us, kissing is prettynmuch like an opening act, yknow? I mean its like the stand-up comedian younhave to sit through before Pink Floyd comes out:nChandler也發表了自己的觀點,他說接吻很大程度上像是序幕(an opening act),像是你聽Pink Floyd的音樂會之前不得不忍受的笑星們的表演一樣。

Ross: Yeah,nand-and its not that we dont like the comedian, its that-that... thats notnwhy we bought the ticket.

Chandler:nThe problem is, though, after the concerts over, no matter how great the shownwas, you girls are always looking for the comedian again, yknow? I mean, werenin the car, were fighting traffic... basically just trying to stay awake.

Rachel: Yeah, nwell, word of advice建議如下: Bring backnthe comedian. Otherwise next time youre gonna find yourself sitting at home, nlistening to that album alone.

chan用類比,show對應sex, comedian對應firstnkiss, fighting traffic 我想是指男人面對女人總要找 more feelings of first kiss than sex, nbasically just trying to stay awake 我想是指男人通常就會搞得很沒心情;rach用comedian對應first kiss, listening to that album對應sex

Joey:n(pause)....Are we still talking about sex?

Opening Credits

[Scene: Museum of Prehistoric History史前歷史博物館, Ross and a co-worker (Marsha) are setting up an exhibitnwhich includes some mannequins of cave people.]

Ross: No,nits good, it is good, its just that- mm- doesnt she seem a little angry?

Marsha:nWell, she has issues

Well, she has issues: Issues在這裡是煩惱、問題的意思,以後碰到別人好像悶悶不樂的時候,你就可以上前來上一句Do you have any issues?

Ross: Doesnshe.

Marsha:nHes out banging other women over the head with a club, while she sits at homentrying to get the mastodon smell out of the carpet!

bang v.重擊/over the head v.

「Hes out 」在這裡表狀態,表示「他在外面……」,後面「bangingnother women over the head with a club」是他在外面所乾的事。

Ross:nMarsha, these are cave people. Okay? They have issues like Gee, that glaciersngetting kinda close. See?

Marsha:nSpeaking of issues, isnt that your ex-wife

(Carol, Rosss ex-wife, has entered behind them and isnstanding outstide the exhibit.)

Ross:n(trying to ignore her) No. No.

Marsha:nYes, it is. Carol! Hi!

Ross: Okay, nokay, yes, it is. (waves) How about Ill,nuh, catch up with you in the Ice Age

(Marsha extis and Ross waves Carol into the exhibit.)

Ross:Hi.

Carol: So.

Ross: Younlook great. I, uh... I hate that.

Carol:nSorry. You look good too.

Ross: Ah,nwell, in here, anyone who... stands erect直立... So whats new? Still, uh...

Carol: Anlesbian?

Ross:nWell... you never know. Hows, um.. hows the family?

Carol:nMartys still totally paranoid. Oh, and, uh-

Ross: Why-nwhy are you here, Carol?

Carol: Imnpregnant.

Ross:nPregnant?!

Monica:nWhose little ball of paper is this?!

Monica:nLook , Im sorry, guys, I just dont wanna give them(指代他們的父母) any morenammunition than they already have.

ammunitionnn.

Chandler:nYes, and we all know how cruel a parent can be about the flatness of a childsnpillow.

flatness n.平整

Phoebe:nMonica- Hi! Um, Monica, youre scaring me. I mean, youre like, youre like allnchaotic and twirly. And not-not in angood way這樣不好.

chaotic adj.

Joey: Yeah, ncalm down. You dont see Ross getting all chaotic and twirly every time theyncome.

Monica:nThats because as far as my parents are concerned, Ross can do no wrong. Ysee, nhes the Prince. Apparently they had some big ceremony before I was born.

as far as……be concerned就……而言

Chandler:n(looking out the window) Ew, ew, ew, ew ew ew ew ew!

Monica:nWhat?

Chandler:nUgly Naked Guy got a Thighmaster!

Thigh-masternn.

All:nEeaagh!

(Rachel enters from her room.)

Rachel: Hasnanybody seen my engagement ring

Phoebe:nYeah, its beautiful.

Rachel: OhnGod, oh God, oh God oh God oh God oh God.... (Starts to look under the couch cushions

Phoebe: No,nlook, dont touch that!

Rachel: Oh, like I wasnt dreading tomorrow enough, havingnto give it back to him... HinBarry! Remember me? Im the girl in the veil who stomped on your heart in frontnof your entire family! Oh God and now Im gonna have to return the ring, nwithout the ring, which makes it so much harder...

Joey:nAlright, whendya have it on last?

Phoebe:nDoy! Probably right before she lostnit!

duh int.[表示猶豫、不快或輕蔑等]咄/doy:first people used to say "duh" which is a sound thatnindicated stupidity, but for a little while, it turned into "doy"nwhich has the same meaning. it just SOUNDS stupid.

Monica: I gave you one job我只給了你一件事干!! (Starts tonexamin the lasagne through the bottom of the glass pan.)

Rachel: Oh,nbut look how straight those noodles are!

Chandler:nNow, Monica, you know thats not how you look for an engagement ring in anlasagne...

Monica:n(puts down the lasagne) I just... cant do it.

Chandler:nBoys? Were going in.

(Chandler,nJoey, and Phoebe start to pick through the lasagne as theres a knock on thendoor which Monica answers.)

Ross:n(standing outside the door).....Hi.

Monica:nWow. That is not a happy hi.

Ross:nCarols pregnant.

Phoebe:n(while everyone else is stunned) Ooh! I found it!

Monica:nW-w-wh-... wha-... w-w-w-...

Ross: Yeah.nDo that for another two hours, younmight be where I am right about now你(的表情)再保持這樣兩小時,就會變成我現在這樣。

(Joey starts to eat the rest of the lasagne and everyonenturns and stares at him.)

Joey:n.....Well, this is still ruined, right?

[Scene, Monica and Rachels, Monica and Ross are pouring wine for theirnparents.]

Mrs. Geller:nOh, Martha Ludwins daughter is gonna call you. (Tastes a snack) Mmm! Whats thatncurry taste?

Monica: NonMom, I dont have a restaurant, I work in a restaurant.

Mrs. Geller:nWell, they dont have to know that... (She starts to fluff the same pillow Monica fluffed multiplentimes earlier.)

Mrs. Geller:nOh, were having spaghetti n. Thats.... easy.

Monica: Inknow this is going to sound unbelievably selfish, but, were you planning onnbringing up the whole baby/lesbian thing? Because I think it might take some of the heat off me能夠減輕我的壓力.

Take some of the heat off sb,這裡是幫Monica減輕壓力的意思。

[Time Lapse, everyone is now eating.]

Mrs. Geller:nWhat that Rachel did to her life.... We ran into her parents at the club, theynwere not playing very well.

run into v.

Mr. Geller:nIm not gonna tell you what they spent on that wedding... but forty thousand dollarsnis a lot of money!

Mrs. Geller:nWell, at least she had the chance to leave a man at the altar...

Monica:nWhats that supposed to mean?

Mrs. Geller:nNothing! Its an expression

Monica: Nonits not.

shoot fotnthe stars追求成功or卓越

[Time Lapse.]

Mr. Geller:n...And I read about these women trying to have it all擁有一切, and I thank God Our Little Harmonica doesntnseem to have that problem.

harmonica n.

dinosaur n.

(Susan enters holding a drink.)

Susan: Hi.

Carol:nRoss, you remember Susan.

Ross: How could I forget?

How could I forget?

Susan:nRoss.

Ross: (theynshake hands) Hello, Susan. (To Carol) Good shake握手好有力. Good shake. So, uh, were just waiting for...?n

Susan: Wenagreed on Minnie.

Ross: Sfunny, num, uh, we agreed wed spend the rest of our lives together. Things change, roll with the punches讓這些打擊減輕一些吧. I believenJulias on the table就叫Julia吧..?

[Scene: Barrysnoffice, Rachel is doing her makeup in the mirror on Barrys lamp as Barrynenters.]

Carol:nRoss. Youre not actually suggesting Helen Willick-Bunch-Geller? Cause I thinknthat borders on child abuse.

border n. 接壤/border on與……接壤/abusenn.v.

Ross: Ofncourse not, Im... suggesting Geller-Willick-Bunch.

Susan: Oh,nno, nonononono, you see what hes doing? He knows no-ones gonna say all those names(=full name), so theyll wind up calling her Geller, then hengets his way!

wind v. 發條, 結束, 使振奮, 使緊張/wind up calling略稱為/get his way他就得逞,隨心所欲 eg:A: George is so stubborn(固執的).B: I know. He always gets hisnway in the end.

Ross: Mynway?! You-you think this is my way? Believe me, of all the ways I ever imaginednthis moment in my life being, this is not my way- yknow what? Uh, um, this isntoo hard. Im not, I cant do-

Dr. Oberman:n(entering) Knock knock! How are we today? Any nausea?

nausea n.

All: Yeah.nYeah. A little.
