Brexit, what now?

As an immigrant myself, I dislike many of the arguments of the Leave campaign. I feel angry and hurt when I hear some native, often poorly educated, British people choose to ignore the contribution of immigrants to this country and blame them for the current, not so great, economic status. I was shocked when the Leave campaign won the referendum by winning votes from those immigrant-hating, education-lacking, and most likely benefits-claiming people.

However, after being in this country for more than 10 years, I learn to not be biassed when I look at things, no matter how shocking and disgusting it might appear in the first place.

So I took on Nigel Farage, a former commodity broker, the current party leader of UKIP, and a man who has disgusted me so much with his far right libertarian political views. It is every ironic that this leader of UK independent party is also a representative of south-east England in the EU parliament. In fact, he is famous for his speeches made in the EU parliament for being so insightful and so correct about the problem of EU, how inappropriate it has become, and how dangerous it can be if it continues to be what it is.

EU was a great idea when it was founded. But it all went wrong when Euro zone was introduced together with its single, unified currency. Almost everyone believed it was a bad idea to stitch so many countries with vast political, economical and cultural differences together, and when one of them fail to perform well economically, it provides a route for their economically better-off neighbours a mean to manipulate its politics via controlling its economy. Then crisis happened in Greece, in Portugal, in Ireland and in Spain. What we saw was one ECB bailout after another, conditioned on political power giveaways from the recipients to the EU parliament. Since then, the EU parliament has in many cases stopped or 『overruled』 the general elections in its deep in debt member states by blackmailing them with not providing financial help.

Nigel in his many speeches in the EU parliament claimed that EU is a failed project both politically and economically, and the sole meaning for it to continue to exist is to provide a way to deprive the democratic right of the people of its poor member states. Now instead of fixing the problems, EU plans to take in more, even poorer member states from east Europe. Nigel pointed out that it cannot, and should not continue like this. Because when poor people are deprived of their democratic right and their identity, they become violent and dangerous.

As a member state, Britain has tried to prevent EU from making many of its mistakes in the past but was ignored, from including the Mediterranean countries into the Euro zone, to giving asylum to whoever arrives the EU soil by boat. Due to the fact that Britain is not part of Euro zone, it does not have as much influence as some other member states. So it had to watch the EU parliament making those mistakes and when the shit hits the fan, watching them trying to deny it and rely on someone else to solve the problems they created.

Then the British said, enough is enough. If we cannot change it, we will leave it. Hence the Brexit referendum.

Leaving EU is going to be painful in the short term, but this EU is a nondemocratic, economically failing, and quite frankly dangerous organisation. In fact, now Britain has pulled the trigger, the single market everyone is so worried about losing access to, might no longer exist in 2 years.

So it might not be a bad thing after all.

Now, whats the plan?

My guess the plan is to wait and see. Brexit is likely to be the beginning of the end of the EU. So what Britan has to do is to wait, or in fact, make, it happen. Then the British can take a lead to rebuilt a new organisation on the legacy of EU and with a structure that is fairer to every one of its member states.

BTW it seems after the referendum, none of the UK mainstream media choose to back the choice of the majority of its people. I have to say, shame on you lot.
