When you notice that your dog has become dirty and

needs a haircut, it will go through you mind that it』s going to be a pain in

the ass. Since the dog may not want to behave long enough for you to get

everything done.

Grooming must be done quite quick to stop the dog from

becoming bored and trying to move about. The first thing you must do is prepare

everything you need, so that you are not stopping to find equipment.

The main problem comes from not having a routine and

only grooming and cleaning the dog whenever its dirty, this way the dog will

see this as a punishment whenever it gets dirty and won』t see it as you are

just cleaning the dog. Once a week at the same time groom the dog giving it

praise and treats as you do. The dog will know that grooming is not a

punishment and that it gets treats for being good.

When grooming its best to use a lead and somewhere to

connect the lead so that the dog does not move and runaway, this will keep the

dog in the same place and allow it to get use to been washed.

Using a shower head

When getting ready to wash the dog you must make use

the water is warm, not too hot and not too cold. start by letting the dog see

you wash you testing the water temperature on your own hand, once the temperature

is perfect slowly move the water onto the back of the dog and slowly cover the

body in water while slowly moving towards the head, but do not wet the head.

Once you are at the top start washing back to the bottom of the dog rubbing the

skin making sure the fur in completely wet. Make sure to be talking to the dog

in a calm voice to make the dog know it』s safe.

Once the dog is wet you can start using soap on the

fur, turn off the water and slowly rub the soap into the fur and keep away from

the face. Once the body is covered then you can wash off the soap, rubbing the

body as you wash to make sure all the soap is gone. Once the soap has gone it』s

time to dry the dog let the dog shake all the water off the body and the dry

the dog with towel, remember to be always praising the dog for been good. Once

the washing and drying is done give the dog a treat and allow it to walk around

to calm down.

The first time might be the hardest but after 1 month

of doing this the dog will know what to do. But you will have to keep it as a

routine.

Grooming

Brushing the dog is one of the easiest parts of

grooming as the dog will enjoy this, but you can get brushes that will pull out

hair that has already died on the dog so will make the coat look cleaning and smoother.

The hardest part of grooming would be cutting the nails as you will have to train

the dog to give you its paw.

When cutting the nails there is a vein that is in the

nail called the quick, if you cut this it will hurt the dog and it will not

want to give you its paw so you can do the other nails. Best thing to do is

slowly clip the nails, this is a lot harder with dogs with black nails as the

quick in hidden. If you do not want to clip the dogs nails you can always take

the dog for a walk but walk on the path instead of the grass this will grind

the nails so they do not become too long.

Conclusion

When a dog feels scared and doesn』t know what to do,

it will look at the owner for a que, if you look scared or you comfort the dog

in a scary moment (such as loud noises or strangers) it will think it will have

to scared of that moment. But if you don』t comfort the dog in a scary moment it

will learn not to bark or be scared. This goes the same with grooming if the

dog is scared just act normally and praise after the job is done so that the

dog will not be scared and will enjoy the experience of grooming.
